Zane Chavez comes to the Diablos in 2012 after spending time with the Grand Prairie AirHogs in 2011 and earlier this season. The 5’10, 205 lbs, catcher from San Diego, California, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the 2005 draft out of Fallbrook Union High School, but did not sign with the team opting instead to attend college at Palomar Junior College (CA) and Indiana State University. Chavez began his career in 2009 with the American Defenders of New Hampshire of the Canadian-American Association and split time between the New Jersey Jackals and the Pittsfield Colonials, both of the Can-Am Association, in 2010 before joining the AirHogs in 2011. In four seasons of professional baseball, Chavez has a career batting line of .271/.328/.381 in 178 games played. He has scored 69 runs and collected 149 hits including 29 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 83 RBIs. Chavez has a career fielding percentage of .981 while being used predominately as a catcher.
